With the UK’s festival scene growing rapidly one can wonder how such a populated city such as Birmingham still remains without a big rock festival. However, all that has changed with the announcement of ‘Beyond The Tracks.’
Taking place between 15-17th September 2017 it is a three day celebration of music taking place at Birmingham’s Eastside City Park. It is a mix of new and well known musical stars and a welcome closure to the summer’s festival circuit.
Headliners include Orbital, Ocean Colour Scene and Editors, with acts such as Leftfield, Jesus and Mary Chain, Maximo Park and The Coral making up more of the line up. Electronic act Leftfield will perform “Leftism” in its entirety at the Birmingham festival ,arguably one of the greatest dance records of all time. Ocean Colour Scene’s headline performance represents a huge homecoming, and Editors make up the headlining alumni with songs such as “Blood,””Munich” and “Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors.”
Local bands also make up a prominent part of the festival, none of which come any bigger than The Twang. Songs such as “Push The Ghosts” and “Either Way” make them suited to festivals and their confident rock anthems make them a band not to be missed. Additionally, indie pop band Jaws and Superfood make up more local based sounds making the festival a perfect setting to discover local Birmingham talent.
With a strong emphasis on electronic sounds, Jagwar Ma provide the perfect musical escape. Their two album “Howlin” and “Every Now And Then” are still strong and offer an infectious sound. Orbital also headline following a five year hiatus, they were responsible for mainstream rise in electronic sounds and their set is therefore not to be missed.
Eudaemonia favourite Carl Barat and The Jackals also head to Birmingham, performing a mix of tracks from debut album ‘Let It Reign’ and other Libertines classics. With an EP set for release shortly, it is clear that The Jackal’s festival sound will be second to none as Beyond the Tracks grows ever closer.
The festival takes place at Eastside City Park, a new site in Birmingham’s City Centre close to transport links. It is arguably the biggest inner city festival Birmingham has seen in many years.
