YVES have been making gradual waves throughout the industry ever since their debut self directed video to “3AM” released in 2015. Their musical development has been second to none, most evident in latest single release “Under Your Thumb.”
Following on from the release of “Only One” in early 2017, their latest single represents a ferocious, intriguing mix of lyric and guitar based sound. Matched by a fast paced, heavy drum beat, a repetitive instantly grows into a memorable chorus. Its sound is suited to small, grungy venues, at times a clear anthem and soundtrack to any memorable night out.
Repeats of “get out” become clear throughout the song, which is at times mesmerising in terms of lyrical ability. YVES promote a ‘phenomenal’ sound which resembles a genre ranging between everything from post punk to classic indie. If their overwhelming Spotify listenership is anything to go by it is clear that they are onto something quite special!
“Under Your Thumb” is an example of their intriguing style, which first came to evidence through debut EP ‘When The Day Comes.’ Having amassed a huge following as a result of intensive touring including coveted festival slots at Reading & Leeds and Truck Festival, songs such as “Glasgow” and “Get Someone” have become strong fan favourites. They both mix melody and strong, guitar based riffs to form part of what is arguably one of the most promising debut EP’s of the decade.
2016 and beyond has seen them gain key industry support and a fan base to match. This summer sees them embark on festivals throughout the country alongside headline dates of their own. They play the famous Sebright Arms in Hackney, London in July, the gig is free and you’d be a fool to miss it!
YVES have much potential, their sound is compelling and entirely relevant. Recent single “Under Your Thumb” only provides yet another example of the uniqueness, there is no better time to have a listen to the Swindon formed trio.
