Arctic Monkeys cover Stephen Fretwell in NYC

Alex Turner loves a good cover song. His unique ability to rework and remaster tracks of yesteryear is second to none. Today, via Spotify, Arctic Monkeys have released their interpretation of Stephen Fretwell’s “-“.

Having already covered the likes of The White Stripes and The Strokes on this year’s fun fuelled Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino Tour, Turner has once again sent pulses racing with a cover of Fretwell’s little known 2004 release.

“Alex Turner loves a good cover song.”

Smooth lyricism, elegant voice and overbearing piano use all come together to create something quite powerful. The track, recorded at NYC’s Electric Lady Studios, accompanies a full band version of lead album single ‘Four Out Of Five’.

The full Spotify session can be found below. Arctic Monkeys continue the UK leg of their current album tour over the coming week.
